1-to-1 Author Coaching with Kathleen

You have a story or an idea.

Maybe you've been saying, 'Someday I'm going to write a book,' or you've already started and you're stuck somewhere in the middle; perhaps you've done the hard part, and it's sitting on your computer right now—

but you have absolutely no idea how to turn that manuscript into an actual book you can give away, or that someone can buy.

That's where Kathleen comes in.

Her private 1-on-1 coaching is more than a conversation about writing.

Kathleen works with you to look closely at what you’re trying to accomplish, identify what may be holding the project back, and find a clear path forward.

Whether you’re shaping an idea, working through a difficult chapter, developing your characters or message, organizing your manuscript, or trying to figure out what comes next, the session begins with your project and where you are in the process.

Kathleen brings the perspective of an author, storyteller, and longtime business consultant to the conversation—asking questions, offering practical guidance, and helping you see possibilities you may not have considered, while keeping the book unmistakably yours.

Sessions are private, relaxed, and face-to-face through virtual meetings, "so you can work with me from wherever you happen to be."

If You Want to WRITE a Book

Perhaps there’s a story that has been living in your head for years. You can see pieces of it. You know what you want to say. You may even have pages already written—but turning all of those thoughts into a book can feel overwhelming.

That’s where we begin.

In our first session, we’ll talk about the book you want to write and what drew you to it in the first place. Together, we’ll uncover what the book is really about, who you’re writing it for, and what you want your reader to take away from it.

From there, we begin giving your ideas structure. We may develop characters, themes, settings or storylines; sort through ideas that seem to be competing with one another; organize your thoughts into chapters; and begin building a roadmap that gives you somewhere to go when you sit down to write.

Then you begin writing.

When we meet again, we’ll work with what you’ve created. We can talk through a scene that isn’t working, explore possibilities when the story has stalled, review portions of your manuscript, or look at places where something simply doesn’t feel right yet. I’ll help you recognize what is working, ask questions that may lead you somewhere you hadn’t considered, and help you strengthen the voice that is already yours.

Before we finish, we’ll identify manageable next steps so that when you return to your manuscript, you know where you’re going next.

I won’t write your book for you—and I don’t want to.  My job is to help you discover how to write the book that only you can write.

If You've Already WRITTEN Your Book

You've typed The End. Wonderful. Now what?

For many first-time authors, finishing the manuscript feels like reaching the finish line—until they discover there’s an entirely new stretch of road ahead.

Editing. Formatting. ISBNs. Copyright. Covers. Trim sizes. Amazon. KDP. Pricing. Printing. E-books. Proof copies.  Suddenly, writing the book may seem like the easy part.

That’s where we begin.

We’ll start by looking at where your manuscript is right now and where you want it to go. Instead of overwhelming you with every step in publishing, we’ll determine what your particular book needs next—and what it doesn’t.

Maybe your manuscript still needs editing or proofreading. Perhaps you’re ready to think about interior formatting, trim size, or your cover. You may be trying to understand ISBNs and copyright, deciding between paperback, hardcover and e-book editions, or staring at the KDP screen wondering what in the world you’re supposed to do next.

We take it one step at a time.

As your book moves closer to publication, I can walk you through the practical decisions that come with becoming an independent author—from preparing your files and setting up your book on Amazon KDP to pricing, proof copies, book descriptions and your author page.

And when something doesn’t make sense, we stop and talk about it. When you already understand something, we don’t waste your time covering it again.

This isn’t a publishing course with a predetermined lesson plan. It’s your book, your questions, and your next step.

We concentrate on what you need next—helping you move from “I wrote a book” to “I’m a published author.”

Don’t Just Learn About Writing, Write!

Kathleen Takes You to Where Ideas Become Words.

These are workshops where participants don’t just listen—they write, imagine, explore, and create. Through storytelling, conversation, guided exercises, and hands-on writing activities, participants put ideas onto paper and begin discovering what they can do with them.

The goal is simple: leave with something you created yourself—and the desire to keep writing long after the workshop is over.

What Does a Coaching Session Look Like?

Think conversation—not classroom.

Bring your manuscript. Bring your outline. Bring the notebook filled with ideas—or the napkin you’ve been scribbling on for the past six months.  Or come with nothing more than the story you can't stop thinking about.

We’ll sit down together and talk about it.

I’ll listen to what you’re trying to accomplish, where you’re struggling, and what has you wondering, “What do I do now?” Then we’ll work through it together—one question, one problem, one possibility at a time.  You won’t leave with a generic list of writing rules. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your book, what it needs, and what you can do next.

And if we meet again, we won’t start over. We’ll pick up where we left off and keep moving your book forward. Because no two writers are exactly alike. No two books are exactly alike.

Your coaching shouldn’t be, either.

And then I would separate your final thought visually because I think it's actually your call to action, not part of the explanation:

Maybe “Someday” Is Today.

Your book doesn’t have to remain the story you’re going to write someday.  Let’s find your story. Write it. Finish it. And let the world read it.

That last line is strong. I would keep it. It takes someone through your entire coaching process in eight words:

Find it → Write it → Finish it → Let it be read.

I’M READY—LET’S TAKE THE NEXT STEP
